Bernice Nevins-Whittler, 88, of New Bloomfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Churchill Terrace in Fulton. Bernice was born April 6, 1928 in Dixie, Missouri to Noah and Zelia West Cave, who preceded her in death. She was married to Owen Nevins and later to Robert Whittler and they also preceded her in death. Bernice attended and graduated from high school in the New Bloomfield area. She worked as a housekeeper for many families in the New Bloomfield area. She was a member of Oakley Chapel in Tebbetts where she served as the Treasurer for many years. Bernice loved to read and was known to have kept records for many historically black churches in Callaway County. She is survived by her nephew, Owen (Ardie) Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri; grand-nieces, Elizabeth Lynn Kelly of Columbia, Missouri and Dorothy (Steve) Preston of St. Louis, Missouri; along with numerous cousins and loving family members and friends. Bernice was also preceded in death by her brother, Sylvester Kelly, and sister, Nettie Moss. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Burial will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.debofuneralhome.com
