Oleta M. Shiverdecker

Oleta Margaret Perkinson Shiverdecker, age 93, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in New Albany, Mississippi. She was born June 11, 1924, in Wellsville, Missouri, but raised from infancy in the Toledo community of eastern Callaway County. Her parents were Oather Perkinson and Maggie Frey Perkinson. Both her parental families moved to Callaway County in the 1860s, shortly after the American Civil War. The Perkinsons came here from Kentucky and the Freys from Pennsylvania. She is survived by one son, Jerry Shiverdecker of New Albany and his wife Nan. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Elizabeth Shiverdecker of Athens, Greece, and Renee LaSalle of Savannah, Georgia; and a grandson, Roger LaSalle of Beaufort, South Carolina. George Shiverdecker, her husband of 62 years, died in Fulton in 2008. Her daughter, Jan Lasalle, died in Bucyrus, Ohio, in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Oather K. Perkinson. Her husband was from a Callaway County farm family of 12 children. All of his 11 siblings and all but one of their spouses preceded her in death. A favorite sister-in-law, Bonnie Guerrant Shiverdecker, lives in Fulton. The first of her husband's family moved from Tennessee to the eastern part of the county in 1816, four years before Callaway County was organized on November 25, 1820 and five years before Missouri statehood in 1821. Thus she has an innumerable extended family in Callaway County and elsewhere. She moved to Mississippi to live with her son and his family following the death of her husband. Debo Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the services. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, July 10, at 1 pm. with the service to follow at 3 pm. Burial will be private.
