Dora Rose Sheets, 97, of Fulton, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Knox County, Mo., on December 25, 1919, the daughter of the late Jesse E. Sr. and Ruby I. (Shew) Sheets. Dora began her working career at the Little Shoe Factory. She went on to retire from Fulton State Hospital following 25 years of service. In retirement, Dora touched the lives of many children by providing home daycare with her sisters, Margaret and Lora Mae. An avid reader, she read the Bible through twice. Her favorite book was The Little Engine That Could. Dora enjoyed collecting dolls, gardening, and sewing. Dora is survived by her niece, Jessie Holmes of Fulton and great-nephew, Eric Holmes (Terri) of Fulton which took care of her on a daily basis. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Dean Crandall of Lewistown, Mo. and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse E. Sheets Jr. and two infants brothers; five sisters, Margaret Marie Holmes, Lora Mae Sheets, Emma Delle Wilfley, Cornelia McKinney and Mary Ruth Crandall. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Rev. Mindy Kiepe and Pastor Eric Holmes officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens. Memorial Donations are suggested to the Fulton V.F.W.
