Dorothy Ellen (Springer) Baumgartner, 81, of Auxvasse, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at King's Daughters Home in Mexico. She was born in Galesburg, Kansas, on November 21, 1934, the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Springer. Dorothy's family moved to Missouri in 1937. She attended Callaway County Schools and William Woods University. On July 6, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to George E. Baumgartner. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2005. Dorothy and George owned Baumgartner's Furniture in Auxvasse and Columbia. Dorothy handled interior design, primarily custom draperies, blinds, and bed coverings. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Auxvasse and Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the Fulton Ladies Day Bridge Group and Rinky Dink Bridge Group. Dorothy was active in the community, serving on Callaway County Cancer Board and Mid-Missouri Mental Health Board, and held a life-time membership with the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society. She served as a Jackson Democrat Committeewoman, and was a member of the Callaway County Central Democratic Board. She served on Governor Christopher Bond's State of Missouri 1776 Bi-Centinnial Board. Dorothy was proud of her lineage as was evident in her memberships in United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonist, Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims, Colonial Dames of America, National Society Magna Charta Dames (State Regent), Colonial Daughter of the XVII Century (Past State Treasurer), and National Society of Huguenots. Dorothy is survived by her children, Georgianna Baumgartner Fugate (Michael) of Auxvasse, George E. Baumgartner II of Columbia, and Alan Baumgartner (Elaine) of Auxvasse; sister, Kay Williams of Auxvasse; grandchildren, Karen Fugate Jacobi (Kenny), Angela Fugate Shramek (Brian), Christopher Fugate (Cara), Leslie Baumgartner Steckel (Timothy), Lilli Baumgartner Brooks (Blake), George E. Baumgartner III, Alana Baumgartner, Jacob Baumgartner (Sarah), and Abby Baumgartner; and great-grandchildren, Megan Bell (Lee), Josh Montague, Jace Jacobi, Brianna Shramek (Jake Brown), Braden Shramek, Arika Shramek, Mariah Zahnter, Mia Fugate, Madeline Steckel, Aurora Baumgartner, George E. Baumgartner IV, Jeremiah Baumgartner, Noah Baumgartner, and Laine Baumgartner; and great-great-grandchild, Kinsley Bell. Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by sister, Margie Doerhoff. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Chaplain Tom Graddy officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Auxvasse Cemetery.
