David H. Haden

David H. Haden, 95, of Hatton, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Mexico Veterans Home. He was born in Boone County, Mo., on November 23, 1921, the son of the late Tinsley Haden and the late Brooksie (Taylor) Haden. On April 23, 1948, David was united in marriage to Mittie V. (Shryock) Haden. She preceded him in death. David was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was a 1943 graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia. Following graduation, he entered in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy from 1944 until 1946. He finished his career as a First Lieutenant. In 1947 and 1948, David taught G. I. Veterans on-the-farm training. From 1956 until 1958, David and Mittie lived on a University of Missouri farm in Columbia. During that time, David was foreman of the University Farms and taught Beginning Animal Husbandry at the University. He continued to farm in Hatton until retirement and was widely known for his knowledge about mules. He served as a respected mule judge in several state fairs. David also was a well-known Registered Quarter Horse breeder and harvested row crops. In 1969, the Hadens were honored to be named the Missouri Farm Family. David is survived by sons, Bryan Dennis Haden of Fulton and Timothy Haden (Sandra) of Rocky Mount; sister, Patsy Slocum of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Bryan Haden, Michelle Haden and Liam Haden; daughter-in-law, Marlene Haden; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, David A. Haden; brothers, Joseph, H. T. "Jim" and Benjamin Haden; and sister, Betty Lou Haden. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Rebecca Mulford officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
