Betty Hopper

Betty Alice Hall Hopper, 80, of New Florence, Mo., formerly of Montgomery City, MO, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at the New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence, Mo. Betty Alice Hopper was born December 6, 1933, in Tebbetts, Mo., to Claris Hall and Mildred McKim Hall. She lived most of her early life in the Williamsburg area and graduated from Fulton High School in Fulton, Mo. Mrs. Hopper received her teaching degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. She married Jerry E. Hopper, Sr. on April 24, 1955, in Williamsburg, Mo., and then lived most of their married lives in Montgomery City, Mo. Mrs. Hopper taught many years in the Callaway County School District, most of it in a two room school house. She later substitute taught for the Montgomery County R-II School District. Mrs. Hopper also sold real estate with her husband, worked at the New Florence Quick Store, and worked for Jeff Porter at State Farm. She enjoyed reading, but loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grand-children. Mrs. Hopper is survived by three children, Betty Jean Smith of Montgomery City, Mo.; Susie Lynn and husband, Bruce, of Montgomery City, Mo.; and Jerry E. "Butch" Hopper, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Mexico, Mo. Also, surviving are four grandchildren, Angelique Pearson of Vandalia, Mo.; Alexandria Harrison and husband, Keith, of Atlanta, Ga.; Jake Lynn of Maryland Heights, Mo.; and Sarah Lynn of Montgomery City, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Lorna; two sisters, Clarice Metz and husband, Bobby, of Fulton, Mo.; and Janice Kuehner and husband, Larry, of Hatton, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Hopper was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jerry E. Hopper, Sr., on March 28, 1976. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, January 6, 2014, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Mo. Mrs. Vanessa Gonzalez and Mr. Jake Lynn will officiate and interment will be in the Williamsburg Cemetery in Williamsburg, Mo. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Mo. Casketbearers include Bill Metz, Gary Hopper, Jake Lynn, Bruce Lynn, John Kuehner and Randy Shanks. Honorary casketbearers include Robert Hopper, Bobby Metz, and Larry Kuehner.
