Sidney Thompson

Sidney Hudson Thompson, 87, of Portland, MO, died on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at his home in Portland, Mo. Sidney Hudson Thompson was born August 13, 1926, in Readsville, Mo., to Odie Thompson and Bernice Tate Thompson. He married Vivian Blanche Eikel Thompson, on December 31, 1949, in Hermann, Mo, they were married almost 60 wonderful years. Together they raised six children. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Bethany Church. He was a hard worker farming and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Thompson served in the United States Army during World War II. Much that service was in the European Theater. Mr. Thompson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Thompson is survived by six children: Harold Thompson and wife, Kay, of Rhineland, Mo.; Sue Neff and husband, Patrick, of Fulton, Mo.; Roger Thompson of Warrenton, Mo.; Kerry Thompson of Rhineland, Mo.; Sidney Thompson, Jr., and wife, Karen, of Columbia, Mo.; and Kevin Thompson and wife, Monica, of Rhineland, Mo.; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Byron Thompson of Rhineland, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Odie and Bernice Tate Thompson; his wife, Vivian Blanche Eikel Thompson, on December 20, 2009; and by three brothers, Gordon, Otis, and Lloyd Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Mo. The Reverend Kenneth Cleeton will officiate and interment with full military honors will be in the Bethany Cemetery near Portland, MO. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Mo. Casketbearers include Justin Neff, Chad Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Matt Thompson, Doug Thompson, Michael Thompson and Corey Thompson.
