Herbert Vincent Meyer, 88, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Fulton, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born February 20, 1924, in Pilot Grove, the son of the late Hubert Joseph Meyer and the late Ruth Nancy (Heidtman) Meyer. In 1947, Herbert was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann (McLaughlin) Meyer, who survives his passing at the home. Herbert fought in World War II in the European Theatre with General George S. Patton's 8th Armored Division at the Battle of the Bulge, earning three bronze stars. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, St. Peter School Advisory Board, Agriculture Advisory Board - Fulton High School Vocation Agriculture, an honorary member of FFA Chapter, and served on the Fulton Chamber of Commerce Board. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Herbert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three sons, Matthew D. Meyer and wife Suzy of Leawood, Kan., Michael L. Meyer and wife Betty of Scott City, and Mark V. Meyer and special friend Donna Hudson of Fulton; two daughters, Nancy S. Bledsoe and husband Jerry of Kelso, and Peggy Brady and husband Mark of Fulton; 15 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by one son, Mitchel Joseph Meyer, and one daughter, Christa Ann Meyer. Mass service will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fulton. Interment will be held at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Booneville. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon John Neudecker officiating.
