Clarence H. McNamee

Clarence Harland McNamee Jr., 88, formerly of Fulton, Mo. passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013, in Lutz, Fla., He was born and raised in Fulton, Mo., and was a 1943 graduate of Fulton High School. In his younger years, Mac was a combat veteran landing on Utah Beach at H-hour, June 6, 1944, with the 70th Tank Battalion Combat Division attached 4th Infantry Division until the surrender of Germany. For his courageous efforts he was awarded five battle stars. Mac had many proud moments in life but one that really made him smile was talking about the book "Strike Swiftly" written by a fellow veteran, Marvin Jensen. It consists of quotes and interviews from the men that fought on the front lines, Mac included. In addition, to being a World War II hero, Mac was an upstanding, practical, hardworking man that retired from the Tampa Post Office after 25 years of service as a mail clerk. He also had a love for history and enjoyed traveling with his wife to satisfy his desire to learn all he could about other places and cultures. He was an avid sports fan with an eternal passion for any type of game or event. He always stayed on top of trivia and statistics. If Mac said it, he was usually right. He was the type of guy that always knew the answers while watching Jeopardy. Those of us around him never stopped learning. He was strong willed with a tender heart for those he loved. He will be missed dearly for he left an impression in our hearts that will last forever and memories of stories that will keep us smiling for years to come. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen Selbey McNamee, formerly of Millersburg, Mo.; two sisters, one brother and their children; Maxie Butler and her sons, Chris Lampe and David Lampe, her daughters, Catherine Stine and her husband Ed, and Cynthia Lincoln and her husband Terry; Edith Behrens and her sons, Jeffrey and David Behrens; Hubert McNamee and his son Michael McNamee and daughter, Sandra Aubert; and special cousin, Mabel Fisher of Fulton, Mo.; and his godsons, Marc Hines and his wife Monica; and their parents, Bill and Brenda Hines, special friends for over 45 years. The remains have been cremated and there were no services held according to his wishes.
