R. F. "Bo" Morrison Jr.

R. F. "Bo" Morrison Jr., 81, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Bo was born April 17, 1931, in Fredonia, Iowa, the son of R. F. "Ted" Morrison Sr. and Naomi Jane (Lee) Morrison. On December 28, 1962, he married Kathryn Bright in Columbus Junction, Iowa. At the time, she was a widow with four young children whom he later adopted in the year 2000. Throughout his life, he held many jobs including: mechanic, carpenter, painter, and bartender, as well as retiring from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier after 35 years. He attended the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church in Columbus Junction, Iowa. He was a 50 year member of both the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100 and the Masonic Lodge #107. He was a long time member of the Columbus Junction Fire Department and served as Fire Chief. He enjoyed cooking, indoors and outdoors, game hunting, fishing, boating, bird watching, hunting and collecting arrowheads, but most of all he dearly loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by: his daughter, Terry K. (Kenneth) Higgins of Fulton; son-in-law, Marlin O'Donnell of Columbus Junction, Iowa; his sons, James "Ed" (Sharon) Bright of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and Robert (Kathy) Bright of Fredonia, Iowa; R.F. "Skip" Morrison III and friend Brad Lamp, of Plymouth, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; his brother, James (Fran) Morrison of Columbus Junction, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dorothy Morrison of Columbus Junction, Iowa; his aunt, Lillian "Tude" Fletcher of Wapello, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Patricia O'Donnell; sister, Pat Marshall; brother, Jack Morrison; grandson, Jerome Gray; great-grandson, Shane Carney; and grandson-in-law, Jeff Carney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Rev. Al Coffin will officiate. Casket Bearers will be his grandsons, Robert W. Gray Jr., Nikkolas E. Gray, Bill Bright, Noel Bright, James Bright Jr. and Kenny O'Donnell. Honorary Casket Bearers will be his granddaughters, Stephanie Baye, Kimberly Carney, Barb Smith, and Susan Duttlinger. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery with Military Rites by the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100. Following the committal services a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post #100. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Stacy - Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home for Bo following the visitation. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in his name.
