David Kent Smart, 61, of Tebbetts, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011, at his home while spending time outdoors with his faithful companion Luke, his yellow Labrador retriever. He was born in Munich, Germany on December 18, 1949, the son of the late Joseph C. Smart and Melba (Hunt) Smart. On August 7, 1999, Dave was united in marriage to Carol (Liesman) Smart, who survives his passing. Dave graduated from South Callaway High School in 1967. After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Dave currently served as Director of Facilities at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, where he was employed for 39 years. Dave was an avid fisherman who liked hunting and being outdoors. For a period of time, Dave was involved in sand drag racing and traveled across the U.S. to compete. Dave and Carol enjoyed Mizzou Basketball, Cardinals Baseball, traveling, gardening, and truly cherished their twelve years together. In addition to his wife, Carol, Dave will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Jami McEntire and husband, Marshall, of Van Buren, Mo.; two grandchildren, Dylan McEntire and Katelynn McEntire; dear friends, Jan and Myles Smart, and god-daughters, Keli and Kaci Jo Smart; one brother, Ronnie Smart; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Bauer; one uncle, Lloyd Smart; four aunts; many cousins and numerous dear friends. Dave was a step-father to Chelsey and Tara Kloeppel and was actively involved in both their academic and athletic achievements. Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Mo. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Maupin Funeral Home.
