Wilma Frances Thurston, 93, of Mexico, on Monday, August 1, 2011 at The Arbors at Lakeview Bend. Wilma was born March 9, 1918, in Fulton, the daughter of John S. and Rosie W. (Lamers) Marshall. On February 4, 1939, in Mexico, she married Virgil C. Thurston. He died on December 1, 1985. Mrs. Thurston had been a seamstress at Marshall Cleaners and worked at J.C. Penney's. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a circle at the King's Daughters Home, VFW Auxiliary and a home extension club. Years ago, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Wilma was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Cookie Grandma". Survivors include three children, Clifford (Sharon) Thurston of St. Louis, Kay (Carl) Nance of Mexico and Ronald (Pam) Thurston of Mexico; three grandchildren, Keven (Julie) Nance of Mexico, Cindy (Rick) Billman of Martinsville, Indiana and Donna (Eric) Kreutz of Mexico; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, J.R. Marshall; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Atkinson officiating. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
