High school softball: New Bloomfield 8, Linn 0

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Junior pitcher Sarah Abbott tossed a three-hit shutout and New Bloomfield benefitted from five Linn errors in a Show-Me Conference clash between Lady Wildcats on Tuesday night.

New Bloomfield (7-2, 3-0 SMC) quickly jumped on top by erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, pushed across a run in the third and scored its other two runs in the fourth.

Abbott struck out six and walked one to move her season record to 6-1.

Freshman left fielder Brinley Dysart was 1-for-3 with a run batted in and two runs scored as New Bloomfield made the most of just five hits. Freshman designated hitter Raegan Smart went 1-for-3 and scored a run, while junior center fielder Makenna Branch finished 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Lady Wildcats were able to bounce back after they were limited to two hits and committed four errors in a 5-2 home loss to Father Tolton on Monday night.

Branch singled to lead off the first for New Bloomfield and Smart had an RBI single in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Asya Nichols suffered the complete-game loss for the Lady Wildcats, surrendering five runs - three earned - on six hits. Nichols (1-1) struck out four and walked two.

New Bloomfield plays at Wellsville-Middletown at 5 p.m. Friday.
