High school softball: Hagens, Lady Hornets stay unbeaten in NCMC with romp over Moberly

The Fulton Lady Hornets softball team pounded the Moberly Lady Spartans to stay perfect in the North Central Missouri Conference.

Fulton junior center fielder Rylee Hagens had four hits and knocked in two runs as the Lady Hornets manhandled Moberly in a 16-1 NCMC rout in three innings Tuesday night at the high school athletic complex.

Fulton erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, five more runs in the second and tacked on two runs in the third to end the game on the mercy rule. The Lady Hornets - extending their winning streak to six games - improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the NCMC.

Hagens went 4-for-4 with two doubles and scored three runs as Fulton accumulated 16 hits. Sophomore left fielder Kiah Pittman was also 4-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and four runs scored.

Senior first baseman Taylor Kettle finished 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and scored a run for the Lady Hornets. Junior designated hitter Paige Clines went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore catcher Rylee Baker was 1-for-3 with two RBI and junior second baseman Payton Mosley finished 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and scored three times.

Junior pitcher Hayden Echelmeier worked all three innings to earn the victory for Fulton. Echelmeier (5-1) gave up an unearned run while scattering five hits and struck out two.

On Monday night at Lebanon, sophomore third baseman Alex Trowbridge's three-run home run punctuated a four-run outburst in the top of the first to power the Lady Hornets in an 11-1 blitz of the Lady Jackets.

Fulton added three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to stop the game on the mercy rule.

Clines went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored as the Lady Hornets logged 10 hits. Hagens was 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Pittman finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Junior pitcher Sydney Hedgpath threw a complete game to pick up the win for Fulton. Hedgpath (2-1) allowed an earned run on five hits, struck out four and walked two.

The Lady Hornets travel to defending Class 3 state champion Mexico for an NCMC rivalry showdown at 5 p.m. Thursday.
