High school softball: Bowling Green 11, South Callaway 5

BOWLING GREEN - Freshman catcher Alaney Miller hit a grand slam and also doubled as the Lady Bulldogs were limited to five hits in a nonconference loss to the Lady Bobcats on Friday.

Junior starter Cassidy Crocker suffered the loss for South Callaway (2-4), surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped the junior varsity game 3-1.

On Thursday night, junior starter Kayleigh Torufa allowed just one hit and struck out eight over six scoreless innings as the Lady Bulldogs started Show-Me Conference play with a 9-3 win over Tuscumbia in Mokane.

South Callaway tallied two runs in the bottom of the first inning, then broke out for four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to build a 9-0 advantage. The Lady Lions produced all three of their runs in the seventh.

Sophomore second baseman Grace Pontius went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs batted in and three runs scored as the Lady Bulldogs accumulated 11 hits. Freshman shortstop Abbi Patrick finished 2-for-3 with a double.

South Callaway bowed in the junior varsity contest 11-4.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Southern Boone at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
