High school softball: North Callaway 15, Wellsville-Middletown 0

AUXVASSE - Sophomore second baseman Mackenzie Eaker drove in three runs and junior pitcher Hayley Kimbley threw a two-hitter as the Ladybirds pounded the Lady Tigers in an EMO rampage Thursday night.

North Callaway (3-2, 2-1 Eastern Missouri Conference) piled up 13 runs in the top of the first inning and added two runs in the third to end the game on the mercy rule. Wellsville-Middletown remained winless at 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the EMO.

Eaker went 2-for-2 with a two-run triple in the first and an RBI single in the third and scored two runs as the Ladybirds recorded nine hits. Junior catcher Haley Garrett finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while senior first baseman Clara Moser was 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored two times.

Kimbley struck out seven and walked one to raise her season record to 3-1.

North Callaway was coming off an 8-5 home loss to Rock Bridge on Wednesday night. Junior third baseman Mikayla Pennell went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored as the Ladybirds collected six hits.

Garrett was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Moser (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs - three earned - on five hits and one walk in five innings.

North Callaway plays in the Putnam County Tournament on Saturday. The Ladybirds open pool play against Putnam County at 10:30 a.m., then face South Harrison at 12:30 p.m. and Highland at 2 p.m.
