Boys' basketball: Missouri School for Deaf 48, Kansas School for Deaf 35

FARIBAULT, Minn. - Sophomore guard Hezeki Smoot tallied a game-high 18 points to steer the Eagles past the Jackrabbits in the semifinals of the 30th-annual Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tournament on Friday night.

MSD (10-9) - defeating KSD for the third time this season - was on top 14-7 after one quarter and outscored the Jackrabbits 11-5 in the second quarter to go up 25-12 at halftime. The Eagles owned a 37-22 advantage to start the fourth quarter.

Smoot also recorded five assists for MSD, which earned a forfeit win over the Arkansas School for the Deaf in the first round Thursday. Sophomore guard Jayden Riordan supplied 16 points, three assists and three steals for the Eagles on Friday night, while junior center Mikal Meriwether chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Ty Mayfield and Quentavis Reese topped KSD with 10 points apiece.

MSD clashed with the New Mexico School for the Deaf in the championship game Saturday night. Results were not available at press time.
