High school track and field: Fulton boys finish in third place at Ron Whittaker Bulldog Invite

MEXICO - Senior Brock Fisher won the 3,200 meters and freshman Ian Poore triumphed in the 400 to guide the Hornets to a third-place finish at the Ron Whittaker Bulldog Invitational on Thursday.

Fisher was victorious in the 3,200 with a time of 4 minutes, 37.40 seconds and Poore prevailed in the 400 in :54.61 as Fulton tallied 113 points.

In the girls' division, Fulton sophomore Kayanna Gaines took second in the 800 (2:35.72) and third in the 1,600 (5:46.26) as the Lady Hornets came in fourth overall with 108 points.

Poore also finished second in the 200 (:23.90), while senior Zack Schwinke took second in the 800 (2:12.98) for the Hornets and junior Jacob Weaver came in second in the shot put (40 feet, 9 1/2 inches). Senior Aaron Eliuk was third in the 400 (:57.20), senior John Cummings finished third in the shot (39-8), and freshman Shaun Wolfe placed fourth in the 3,200 (11:32.30).

Schwinke and Wolfe also teamed with sophomore Issac Avery and freshman Alexander Noel to come in fourth in the 3,200 relay (9:35.1).

Freshman Nykiah Pittman was second in the 100 (:13.9) and third in the long jump (13-4 1/2) for the Lady Hornets. Junior Madalyn Henley finished third in both the 200 (:28.54) and the 300 hurdles (:52.25), while freshman Kyela Macon took third in both the 100 hurdles (:18.61) and triple jump (30-4 1/2).

Pittman and Henley joined with juniors Allison Murphy and Judy Nguyen to win the 400 relay in :54.29.

Senior Reagan Verwys came in third in the shot (29-10 1/2) for Fulton, while freshman Rylee Baker finished third in the pole vault (7-0). Murphy was fourth in the javelin (85-3), Nguyen placed fourth in the long jump (13-1 1/2), junior Caitlin Sievert took fourth in the 3,200 (14:25.84), and freshman Zoee Schuster came in fourth in the high jump (4-10).

Hannibal locked up a sweep of the boys' and girls' team championships with 197 and 168 points, respectively.

Fulton competes at the Hermann Invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
