Cross country: Fulton's Fisher advances to Class 3 championships

BOWLING GREEN - Senior Brock Fisher advanced to the state cross country championships for the Hornets by taking second place in 16 minutes, 55.03 seconds at the Class 3, District 5 championships Saturday at the Pike County Fair Grounds.

Fisher - who was a distant runner-up behind Helias junior Jack Crull's winning time of 16:09.49 - will be making his third consecutive appearance at the state championships. Fisher finished 38th in Class 3 last year and 40th in 2016.

Fisher will run in the Class 3 boys' race at 10:45 a.m. next Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City.

Senior Zach Schwinke placed 30th in 18:26.86 on Saturday as Fulton took eighth place in District 5 with 170 points. Freshman Alexander Noel came in 35th in 18:48.63, freshman Shaun Wolfe was 39th in 18:55.83, and freshman Jacob Barnes finished 70th in 20:30.11.

In the girls' varsity division, Fulton sophomore Kayanna Gaines took 24th in 22:14.69 as the Lady Hornets were ninth as a team with 205 points. Junior Caitlin Sievert came in 35th in 23:14.84, sophomore Lilia Morales-Secundino was 48th in 24:30.34, freshman Madison Dyro placed 57th in 25:50.51, and senior Anna Bonderer finished 60th in 26:49.54.

Owensville and Helias wrapped up the District 5 girls' and boys' team championships with 24 and 51 points, respectively.
