Golf: North Callaway comes in fifth at Russellville tourney

EUGENE - The Thunderbirds accumulated a 409 total to take fifth place as a team at the Russellville Tournament at Redfield Golf Course on Wednesday.

Senior Ryan Weber tied for 16th place individually with a 98 to guide North Callaway. Senior Austin Edwards followed with a 102, junior Logan Hampton supplied a 104 and junior Will Shryock added a 105.

"Under the conditions - it was kind of misty and dreary, and the fairways were sloppy wet - I was satisfied," Thunderbirds head coach Jack Peace said. "There's a lot of room for improvement, but it was a good experience.

"I don't think anyone was happy with their scores, but compared to everyone else, they might not be as bad as they thought."

California easily collected the team championship with a 341 score, finishing 20 strokes in front of second-place Stover's 361. Linn took third place with a 364.

North Callaway hosts a triangular with Southern Boone and Missouri Military Academy at 4 p.m. today at Tanglewood Golf Course.
