Girls' basketball: New Bloomfield 63, Wellsville 20

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Senior center Samantha Haas supplied a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Wildcats breezed past the Lady Tigers in Thursday night's non-conference rampage.

The victory was the second in a row for New Bloomfield (3-2), which led 17-11 after one quarter and outscored Wellsville 17-2 in the second quarter to extend its advantage to 34-13 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats turned the contest into a runaway by outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-7 in the third quarter to build a commanding 54-20 lead.

Senior guard Parker Pitzen knocked down five 3-pointers to also tally 17 points for New Bloomfield. Sophomore guard Makenna Branch chipped in with 11 points.

"After the first quarter, we shot the ball pretty well," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "We came out a little tight, but then we got rolling. We would get a rebound and then we took it at them.

"We're starting to understand what we want to accomplish on defense. We mixed it up a little bit - we started out with some half-court pressure and then we went to some full-court pressure to keep us more active."

Lucy Schnitker paced Wellsville with nine points.
