Track and field: Lady Wildcats come in second at Southern Boone Relays

ASHLAND - New Bloomfield senior Kassi O'Dowd, junior Samantha Haas and sophomore Kylie Quinn were each victorious in events to spark the Lady Wildcats to a second-place finish at the Southern Boone Relays on Thursday night.

Senior Adrian Mann triumphed in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles as the South Callaway girls came in third behind New Bloomfield.

In the boys' division, freshman Caleb Distler produced wins in the 800 and 3,200 to help carry New Bloomfield to a third-place outcome. South Callaway was next in fourth place as senior Hunter Schroer prevailed in both the discus and shot put.

O'Dowd won the 800 in 2 minutes, 47.95 seconds as the New Bloomfield girls logged 152 points. Haas was victorious in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 4 1/2 inches, while Quinn triumphed in the 3,200 in 15:30.58.

Haas teamed with juniors Mackenzie Garrett and Parker Pitzen, and senior Mckenna Rackers to win the 800 relay in 1:57.97. The quartet also took third in the 400 relay (:56.11).

O'Dowd combined with Garrett, freshman Makenna Branch and sophomore Abbie Schattgen to finish first in the 3,200 relay in 11:59.13. O'Dowd also joined with Rackers, Pitzen and freshman Aislin Jennings to come in second in the 1,600 relay (4:44.30).

Haas was third in the long jump (14-1/2), while Quinn placed third in the 100 hurdles (:21.28) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (:59.43). Branch took second in the 400 (1:11.21), third in the 100 (:14.64), and fourth in the high jump (4-6).

Sophomore Olivia Morton and freshman Kara Beckett finished third (28-0) and fourth (27-3 3/4), respectively, in the shot put for the Lady Wildcats. Schattgen took fourth in the 800 (3:03.54), sophomore Mason Whitfield placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (:22.54), and sophomore Madi Branch was fourth in the javelin (83-10).

Mann won the 100 and 300 hurdles with respective times of :17.69 and :49.95 as the South Callaway girls accumulated 119 points. Mann came in fourth in the 100 (:14.74) and teamed with fellow seniors Ashley Potter and Kaci Jordan, and freshman Paige Clubb to finish second in the 400 relay (:54.49).

Clubb prevailed in the 200 in :28.33 and joined with Potter, Jordan and junior Hannah Benningfield to take second in the 800 relay (1:58.80). Senior Elli Luebbert won the 1,600 for the Lady Bulldogs in 6:21.78.

Potter placed second in the 100 (:14.61) and fourth in the long jump (13-10), while freshman DeLaney Horstman was second in the pole vault (9-0). Benningfield finished third in both the 200 (:30.52) and pole vault (6-6), and Jordan came in fourth in the triple jump (30-11).

Distler triumphed in the 800 and 3,200 in 2:13.06 and 11:14.35, respectively, as the New Bloomfield boys tallied 141 points. Distler placed fourth in the javelin (115-0) and was part of the 3,200 relay - along with seniors Kyle Emerson and Payton Culwell, and junior Robert Morningstar - that was victorious in 9:08.32.

Senior Clay Walker prevailed in the 200 in :24.00 for the Wildcats and was second in the 100 (:12.17). Walker also joined with Culwell, senior Jak Kitchens and junior Bailey Crane to take second in both the 800 relay (1:34.38) and 1,600 relay (3:34.76).

Culwell finished second in the 400 (:52.63) and Morningstar placed third in the 1,600 (5:20.43). Sophomore Easton Ambler was third in the 110 hurdles (:18.28) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (:46.96).

Freshman Kaleb Brandt came in third in the discus (106-8 1/2) and senior Austin Carrier placed fourth in the 800 (2:24.10). Carrier also collaborated with Crane, Kitchens and senior Cole Hazelhorst to take third in the 400 relay (:47.06).

Schroer was victorious in the discus and shot with respective tosses of 127-5 and 39-2 1/2 as the South Callaway boys recorded 132.7 points. Junior Wyatt Hager was the Bulldogs' other event winner in the pole vault at 12-6.

Junior Daniel McDonald and freshman Dustin Russell posted second-place finishes in the 1,600 (5:15.41) and 3,200 (12:18.82). Sophomore Nick Mealy came in second in the javelin (122-6) and freshman Hayden Vaught placed second in the high jump (5-8).

Senior Austin Meyer followed Vaught in third place in the high jump (5-8) and sophomore Nathanael Shuler finished third in the 3,200 (12:40.37). Senior Logan Jacobs was fourth in the shot (36-7 1/2), sophomore Noah Reece took fourth in the triple jump (38-10), and sophomore Brandon Stoker placed fourth in the long jump (17-10).

Russell and Shuler teamed with freshmen Brandon Brewer and Raife Evans to take third in the 3,200 relay (10:40.60). The Bulldogs' quartet of Meyer, Stoker, Reece and freshman Hunter Martin-Hay came in fourth in both the 400 relay (:47.15) and 1,600 relay (3:57.88).

Host Southern Boone pulled off a sweep of the boys' and girls' team titles with 202.5 and 160 points, respectively.

New Bloomfield competed in the Russellville Invitational on Saturday, while South Callaway was at the 59th-annual Capital City Relays in Jefferson City. Results from both meets were not available at press time.
