Schroer, Horstman direct Bulldogs to SMC track title

Walker, Wildcats come in a close second

MOKANE - South Callaway seniors Hunter Schroer and Landon Horstman both won two events to help steer the Bulldogs to the boys' team title at the Show-Me Conference track and field championships Tuesday.

New Bloomfield shadowed South Callaway in taking second place as senior Clay Walker triumphed in two events. The Wildcats were also victorious in three of the four relay races.

In the girls' division, senior Adrian Mann posted a pair of first-place finishes as South Callaway came in third as a team. New Bloomfield ended up in sixth place.

Schroer prevailed in the discus and shot put with respective throws of 133 feet, 5 inches and 41 feet, 7 inches as the South Callaway boys locked up the team championship with 154 points. Horstman won the triple jump and long jump at 41-11 1/2 and 19-9 1/2, respectively.

Junior Wyatt Hager was victorious in the pole vault at 11-0 and took fourth in the 110 hurdles at 18.63 seconds. The Bulldogs' 400 relay of seniors Logan Brewer, Kaden Helsel and Austin Meyer, and sophomore Noah Reece triumphed with a time of :46.54.

Helsel finished second in the 100 (:11.83) and the quartet of Reece, Brewer and freshmen Hunter Martin-Hay and Hayden Vaught was second in the 800 relay (1:37.37). Vaught took third in the high jump (5-6) and fourth in the 200 (:24.32), while junior Tyklen Salmons placed third in the pole vault (10-6) and fourth in the discus (111-2).

Brewer finished third in the long jump (18-10), and Meyer was fourth in both the 800 (2:11.38) and the high jump (5-6). Senior Logan Jacobs came in fourth in the shot (38-4).

South Callaway's 1,600 relay of Meyer, Brewer, Martin-Hay and Reece took fourth (3:46.74). The foursome of junior Daniel McDonald, senior Jared Stieferman and freshmen Brandon Brewer and Dustin Russell also placed fourth in the 3,200 relay (9:52.67).

Walker won the 100 and 200 in :11.46 and :23.35, respectively, as the New Bloomfield boys finished just 10 points behind the Bulldogs with 144. Walker finished third in the 400 (:53.48), while teaming with fellow seniors Jak Kitchens, Kyle Emerson and Payton Culwell to prevail in the 1,600 relay in 3:37.47.

Kitchens, senior Cole Hazelhorst, sophomore Easton Ambler and junior Bailey Crane combined to triumph in the 800 relay in 1:36.65. The Wildcats' 3,200 relay of Emerson, Crane, freshman Caleb Distler and Culwell was victorious in 8:44.11.

Culwell won the javelin with a toss of 145-10 and took second in the 400 (:52.44), while the 400 relay of Kitchens, Hazelhorst, senior Austin Carrier and Crane also finished second (:47.04).

Ambler came in third in both the 110 hurdles (:17.44) and 300 hurdles (:46.12), Kitchens placed third in the 200 (:23.84), and freshman Kaleb Brandt was third in the discus (116-7). Distler finished fourth in the 3,200 (11:00.38) and freshman Adam Deppe took fourth in the 300 hurdles (:47.54).

Mann was victorious in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles with respective times of :17.21 and :50.53 as the South Callaway girls tallied 108 points. Mann also joined with seniors Ashley Potter and Kaci Jordan, and freshman Paige Clubb to take second in the 800 relay (1:55.80).

Jordan won the triple jump at 31-10 and teamed with Potter, Clubb and junior Hannah Benningfield to prevail in the 400 relay at :54.79.

Clubb also finished second in the 200 (:27.98) and third in the 100 (:13.64), while freshman DeLaney Horstman came in second in the pole vault (8-0) and third in the high jump (4-6). Senior Elli Luebbert placed third in the 3,200 (13:48.68), Jordan took fourth in the long jump (14-10), and Potter finished fourth in the high jump (4-6).

Junior Mackenzie Garrett was second in the javelin (84-6) and freshman Makenna Branch came in second in the high jump (4-8) as the New Bloomfield girls logged 78 points. Garrett and Branch also joined with sophomore Abbie Schattgen and senior Kassi O'Dowd to finish second in the 3,200 relay (11:17.73).

Senior Mckenna Rackers took third in the 400 (1:09.66), while the Lady Wildcats' quartet of O'Dowd, Schattgen, junior Parker Pitzen and freshman Aislin Jennings placed third in the 1,600 relay (4:47.30).

Junior Samantha Haas was fourth in the triple jump (31-7 1/2) and freshman Auburn Feathers finished fourth in the discus (89-0). Pitzen, Garrett, Rackers and Haas teamed up to take fourth in both the 400 relay (:56.74) and 800 relay (2:00.32).

Fatima easily wrapped up the SMC girls' team championship with 174 points and Eugene was far back in second place with 114.

New Bloomfield competes in the Southern Boone Relays at 2 p.m. today. South Callaway goes to the Capital City Invitational in Jefferson City at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
