JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The North Callaway girls' 3,200-meter relay medalled with a fourth-place finish Friday at the Class 3 state track and field championships at Jefferson City High School's Adkins Stadium.
The Ladybirds' 3,200 quartet of junior Kyla Bertschinger, senior Jaclyn McMurtry, junior Reyna Schmauch and freshman Daelyn Schmauch recorded a time of 10 minutes, 4.32 seconds. Bowling Green secured the state title in 9:51.64.
In the Class 3 boys' division, North Callaway junior Tanner Pezold produced medalist honors with a sixth-place heave of 144 feet even in the javelin. Osage senior Jason Edwards locked up the state championship with a throw of 176-8.
Daelyn Schmauch finished 15th in the girls' 1,600 in 5:47.93 on Saturday and was 14th in the 3,200 in 12:43.42 on Friday. Reyna Schmauch placed 15th in the 3,200 in 12:47.60.
North Callaway sophomore Paden Lewis came in 13th in the boys' shot put with a throw of 45-2 on Friday.
In the Class 4 boys' division, Fulton senior Jared Eliuk failed to reach Saturday's finals in the 400. Eliuk took 13th in :51.27 in Friday's preliminaries.
Fulton junior Mason Gaines ran in the boys' 3,200 finals Saturday, but the schedule had been pushed back due to severe thunderstorms in the Jefferson City area.
