Baseball: New Bloomfield 11, Pilot Grove 1

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - Senior starter Tyler Martin threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 in the New Bloomfield Wildcats' five-inning, non-conference rout of the Pilot Grove Tigers on Thursday night.

Martin walked none and gave up an earned run in the first inning to go the distance for the win.

"Tyler Martin threw a great game and kept (Pilot Grove) off-balance," New Blooomfield head coach Justin Forsythe said. "He threw strikes and was ahead in the count. Everything was working for him."

The Wildcats (2-3) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, then took the lead for good with three runs in the third. New Bloomfield erupted for seven runs in the fourth to pull away for the decisive victory.

Martin helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with two doubles and five runs batted in as the Wildcats made the most of only six hits. Senior shortstop Zack Burton finished 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore right fielder Jacob Lane went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored once.

Junior catcher Nick Hammann was also 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while senior third baseman Johnny Elliott finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

New Bloomfield's scheduled non-conference game at Salisbury on Friday was rained out. The Wildcats open Show-Me Conference play at Fatima at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
