Gilman, T-Birds finish second at Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. - North Callaway senior Levi Gilman prevailed in the 300-meter hurdles and came in second in the 110 hurdles as the Thunderbirds finished second at the Montgomery County Early Season Invitational on Tuesday.

In the girls' division, North Callaway triumphed in the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays as the Ladybirds took third place as a team.

Gilman was victorious in the 300 hurdles in 46.27 seconds and was second in the 110 hurdles in :17.14 as North Callaway accumulated 92 points. Paris locked up the boys' team title with 106 points, while Fulton and Van-Far tied for third place with 90.

Gilman was also part of the Thunderbirds' 400 relay - along with juniors Davian Locastro, D'Anthony Kemp and Skyler Barker - that finished third in :49.14. Gilman teamed with Locastro, Kemp and freshman Bradley Berry to come in fourth in the 800 relay in 1:43.59.

Junior Tanner Pezold won the javelin for North Callaway with a heave of 123 feet, 5 inches, while senior Skyler Saxon placed fourth in the event at 92-9. Barker took third in the 110 hurdles in :19.41, sophomore Paden Lewis was third in the shot put at 38-3, and sophomore Carson Poe came in third in the pole vault at 8-6.

Kemp picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in the triple jump (38-3) and long jump (17-3 1/4). The Thunderbirds' 1,600 relay of sophomores Khobi Kellerman and Ean Rohrbach, freshman Victor Daniels and Barker placed second in 4:09.77, while the 3,200 relay of senior Ned Atterberry, junior Jared Bailey, sophomore Kurtis Stubblefield and freshman Parker Smiley took third in 11:30.47.

The North Callaway girls' 400 relay of freshman Ellie Eckert, senior Jaclyn McMurtry, sophomore Kenzie Ausfahl and junior Kallie Jo Lehenbauer triumphed in :57.96. The 1,600 relay of junior Reyna Schmauch, McMurtry, junior Kyla Bertschinger and freshman Daelyn Schmauch logged a winning time of 4:33.84.

The 3,200 relay of Bertschinger, Reyna Schmauch, Daelyn Schmauch and freshman Brianna Douglass took first in 11:10.96 as the Ladybirds totalled 96 points. Montgomery County wrapped up the girls' team championship with 164 points and Mark Twain followed in second place with 128.

Junior Erica Garrett prevailed in the javelin with a throw of 80-4, while sophomore Jenna Leible took third in the event at 72-7 and junior Nicole Emmons was fourth at 70-4. Senior Colleen Meffert came in second in the 300 hurdles in :53.93 and Ausfahl finished second in the triple jump at 31-9.

Garrett was also third in the high jump at 4-4 and sophomore Heather Thurman placed fourth in the long jump at 14-1. The 800 relay of Meffert, McMurtry, Ausfahl and Lehenbauer took second in 2:01.7.

On Monday at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays in Warrensburg, the Ladybirds' 4,000 distance medley relay of Daelyn Schmauch, McMurtry, Bertschinger and Reyna Schmauch set a school record with its fourth-place time of 14:00.10.

North Callaway hosts its Thunderbird Open at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
