Thunderbirds beat Mark Twain, win streak extends to eight

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. - The North Callaway Thunderbirds picked up their eighth win in a row after they beat the Mark Twain Tigers 66-56 in an Eastern Missouri Conference game on Tuesday night.

North Callaway (14-10, 5-4 EMO) trailed 12-10 after the first quarter, but outscored Mark Twain 17-9 in the second period to take a 27-21 advantage at halftime. The Thunderbirds outscored the Tigers 17-13 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 44-34.

Freshman forward Tully Thomsen knocked down three 3-pointers and made all eight of his free throws to lead the Thunderbirds with a game-high 23 points. Sophomore guard Dawson Wright went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line as he provided 14 points.

"It was a great team effort," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. '"We were playing a little short tonight because of sickness, but we had a lot of players step up and did a great job. It was a great team effort."

Grant Peters led Mark Twain (8-15, 2-7) with 19 points, while Brad Tonkinson tallied 15 and Bailey McMillen added 10.

North Callaway (7-13) won the junior varsity game 44-24. Sophomore guard Andrew Locastro led the Thunderbirds with 16 points, while freshman guard Cody Lee put up 13.

The Thunderbirds host an EMO game against Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m. Friday for their final regular-season game.
