College: William Woods announces Joost as new tennis coach

Chance Joost has been named the new William Woods University men's and women's tennis head coach, the school's athletic director Jason Vittone announced Wednesday.

Joost comes to William Woods after serving as the head tennis professional/junior director for Genesis Health Club/World Gym in Merriam, Kan. During his tenure at Genesis, he was responsible for the growth of all junior programs for the 18-and-under division.

"We are happy and excited to welcome Chance to the William Woods family," Vittone said. "I'm looking forward to watching our program move forward under his leadership."

Joost inherits a men's program at William Woods that went 22-3 last spring and advanced to the second round of the NAIA national championships. The women's program finished the season 16-7 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national championships.

Both teams are currently ranked in the NAIA Top 10 preseason poll.

"I just want to thank Athletic Director Jason Vittone and the rest of the search committee for giving me this opportunity to lead a great group of student-athletes," Joost said. "They are ready to accomplish great and special things here at William Woods."

Prior to Genesis, Joost was head men's and women's coach at Hesston (Kan.) College. His first coaching stint came as an assistant for two seasons at NCAA Division II Washburn (Kan.) University.

Joost is a Washburn graduate and received his bachelor of arts degree in kinesiology in 2015. He was an all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association selections and ranks 15th in singles wins at Washburn.
