College men's tennis: No. 10 William Woods exits NAIA championships

MOBILE, Ala. - The 10th-ranked Owls dropped four singles matches and were ousted by No. 6 Keiser (Florida) University in a 5-2 second-round loss at the 68th-annual NAIA national championships Wednesday.

William Woods University - which owned a 2-1 edge after doubles play - had its 16-game winning streak halted. The Owls finished the season with a 22-3 record.

No. 1 doubles: junior Aaron Westerlund/senior Javier Callejo (WWU) defeated Lorenzo Villaume/Geronimo Barrios (KU), 8-5; No. 2: junior Oscar Barreiro/junior Christopher Vleeming Ortiz (WWU) def. Oliver Koeng/Riccardo Ferraris (KU), 9-7; No. 3: Arthur Bonnaud/Julian Turosienski (KU) def. junior Sam Bird/freshman Patrick Shelepov (WWU), 8-3.

No. 1 singles: Barrios (KU) vs. Callejo (WWU), 7-5, 5-2, unfinished; No. 2: Villaume (KU) def. freshman Antoine Maraval (WWU) 6-4, 6-3; No. 3: Ferraris (KU) vs. Barreiro (WWU), 1-6, 7-5, unfinished; No. 4: Bonnaud (KU) def. Ortiz (WWU), 6-3, 6-4; No. 5: Turosienski (KU) def. junior Jesus Amezcua (WWU), 7-5, 6-1; No. 6: Gerard Rodriguez (KU) def. Westerlund (WWU), 6-3, 6-3.
