College softball: Westminster 5-5, Fontbonne 2-3

ST. LOUIS - The Lady Blue Jays moved to 12-14 overall and 12-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by sweeping a doubleheader against the Lady Griffins on Wednesday night.

Fontbonne University fell to 7-22 on the season and 5-9 in the SLIAC.

Westminster College broke a 3-all tie in the nightcap when freshman catcher Hannah Schroeder and junior designated player Madison Washington delivered RBI doubles in the top of the seventh inning.

Freshman first baseman Mikala Guthrie finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored as the Lady Blue Jays totalled 10 hits. Freshman starter Bailee Zemianek went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and scored a run.

Washington was 2-for-4 with one RBI and junior second baseman Taylor White finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Zemianek (2-3) went the distance to log the win, surrendering three runs - two earned - on six hits and struck out three.

Westminster junior starter Madison Ingram tossed a four-hitter and tallied 12 strikeouts to record the victory in the first game. Ingram (6-4) gave up two earned runs and issued three walks.

Freshman right fielder Lauren Huskey went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, an RBI and scored twice as the Lady Blue Jays ended up with 11 hits. Junior center fielder Mackenzie Myers was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Washington also finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run, while Guthrie went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Westminster hosts Eureka (Illinois) College in a SLIAC doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
