Softball: Biola (Calif.) 3-6, William Woods 0-4

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Lady Owls dropped down to the .500 mark at 7-7 after being swept by the Lady Eagles in Tuesday night's doubleheader.

William Woods University managed only five hits - all singles - in being shut out in the opener. Biola put up single runs in the bottom of the first, fourth and fifth innings.

Freshman left fielder Celeste Sermeno, freshman designated hitter Devyn Burton, freshman right fielder Lindy Wilson and sophomore first baseman Madison Ausfahl - a North Callaway graduate - were each 1-for-3 for the Lady Owls. Junior center fielder Emma Walker went 1-for-4.

Senior starter Bre Logan battled her control in suffering the complete-game loss for William Woods. Logan (2-2) surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits, issued seven walks and struck out one.

The Lady Eagles went in front with two runs in the second in the second game. The Lady Owls countered with two runs in the top of the third to tie the game, then took a 3-2 advantage with a run in the fifth.

Biola regained the lead with two runs in its half of the inning, but William Woods tallied a run in the top of the sixth to pull even at 4-all. The Lady Eagles grabbed the lead for good by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Ausfahl finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in as William Woods out-hit Biola 10-9. Sermeno was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Walker went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored twice.

Junior shortstop Dacrie Depping - a Fulton graduate - finished 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Senior starter Allison Waskow went the distance in taking the loss for the Lady Owls, who committed three errors. Waskow (4-3) gave up six runs - only three earned - on nine hits, struck out one and walked one.

William Woods wraps up its spring-break trip with a doubleheader against No. 17 Vanguard University at 3:30 p.m. CST today in Costa Mesa, California.
