Women's basketball: Webster 63, Westminster 60

WEBSTER GROVES - The Lady Blue Jays' four-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winning streak was snapped by the Lady Gorlocks on Saturday.

Junior guard Kendahl Adams produced 18 points and sophomore forward Mikalyn Callahan added 10 for Westminster College (10-8, 5-4 SLIAC). It wasn't enough as Webster University (12-5, 6-3) knocked the Lady Blue Jays out of a tie for third place in the SLIAC.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well. Westminster shot only 36 percent (22-of-60) overall and 36 percent from 3-point range (4-of-11). The Lady Gorloks shot just 38 percent (26-of-68) as a team, including 33 percent (3-of-9) from behind the arc.

The game was tied at 10-all after the first quarter, but the Lady Blue Jays outscored Webster 20-17 in the second quarter to take a narrow 30-27 advantage into the break.

Despite trailing by as many as five points in the third quarter, Westminster still protected a 46-45 edge after a pair of Adams free throws.

The Lady Blue Jays battled in the fourth quarter and took a 54-52 lead halfway through the period when Callahan launched in a 3-pointer. The Lady Gorloks answered with an 8-0 run to go up 60-54 with 1 minute, 49 seconds to play, and Westminster was unable to rally.

Junior forward Mirrakohl Johnson pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and freshman forward Grace Archambault recorded 12 to carry the Lady Blue Jays to a commanding 49-32 advantage on the boards.

Taylor Lucas logged a game-high 22 points to direct Webster and Jaysea Morgan came off the bench to supply 12.

Westminster hosts SLIAC foe Greenville (Illinois) College at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Blue Jays were demolished by the Lady Panthers 84-58 on Dec. 2 at Greenville.
