Track & Field: William Woods' trio attain All-American status

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Junior Anna Houston and freshman Megan Van Harn achieved All-American status in the heptathlon for the William Woods University Lady Owls at the NAIA outdoor track and field national championships Friday.

Junior Madelyn Scrivner also picked up All-American acclaim in the hammer throw Thursday.

Houston took second in the heptathlon with 4,861 points and Van Harn was right behind her in third with 4,813. Westmont's Becky Collier finished first with 5,178 points.

On Thursday, Houston and Van Harn both opened by logging times of 15.20 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. Houston cleared 5 feet, 5 3/4 inches in the high jump and Van Harn made 4-10 1/2.

Houston then recorded a distance of 39-1 1/4 in the shot put and Van Harn came in at 37-8 3/4. In the final event of the day, Van Harn and Houston posted respective times of :26.17 and :26.89 in the 200.

On Friday, Houston and Van Harn both reached 16-7 1/4 in the long jump. Houston followed with a distance of 133-4 1/4 in the javelin and Van Harn finished at 114-0 1/2.

In the final event, Van Harn achieved a time of 2:19.06 in the 800 and Houston clocked in at 2:37.98.

On Thursday, Scrivner took seventh place in the hammer throw with a toss of 172-0 3/4.
