Women's Tennis: William Woods suffers loss in NAIA semifinals

MOBILE, Ala. - The No. 11 seed WWU Lady Owls' season came to an end after they were shut out by No. 2 Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) College 5-0 in the semifinals of the NAIA national championships Friday.

William Woods University - which was also blanked by Lindsey Wilson 5-0 on March 6 in Columbia, Kentucky - completed the season with a 14-10 record. The Lady Owls reached the NAIA semifinals for the first time.

Here are Friday's doubles and singles results:

No. 1 doubles: Fiona Curty/Maria Prados Cid (LWC) defeated sophomore Felica Cesar/sophomore Julia Mulder (WWU), 8-0; No. 2: Minja Gligic/Jovana Peric (LWC) def. freshman Zlata Shuraeva/sophomore Chelsea Steward (WWU), 8-5; No. 3: Alex Shchipakina/Natalia Kattah (LWC) def. sophomore Karyna Sagalai/sophomore Alba Salinas (WWU), 8-2.

No. 1 singles: Shchipakina (LWC) def. Sagalai (WWU), 6-2, 6-1; No. 4: Curty (LWC) def. Steward (WWU), 6-0, 6-3.

Lindsey Wilson advanced to play top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett for the NAIA national title Saturday afternoon. Gwinnett shut out No. 4 seed Keiser (Florida) 5-0 in Friday's other semifinal.
