Softball: Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) sweeps William Woods

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The WWU Lady Owls were limited to a total of five hits in being swept 4-3 and 5-0 by the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions in Saturday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader.

William Woods University has now lost four straight in falling to 14-13 overall and 0-4 in the AMC.

The Lady Owls rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the opener to force extra innings by tying the game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore shortstop Ari Arnold produced an RBI double and senior first baseman Madison McCormick followed with an RBI single, with Arnold racing home on the play to score the tying run.

Freed-Hardeman University, though, spoiled William Woods' comeback when it manufactured the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Arnold and McCormick were both 1-for-3 to account for the Lady Owls' only hits.

Junior starter Allison Waskow threw a complete game in suffering the loss for William Woods. Waskow (2-7) gave up four runs - three earned - on five hits, but issued six walks and struck out only two.

The Lady Owls were then blanked on just three hits in the nightcap. Sophomore third baseman Amanda Bouchey went 1-for-3 with a double, while McCormick and senior center fielder Hannah Campbell were also 1-for-3.

William Woods freshman starter Madison Ausfahl, a North Callaway graduate, worked 5 2/3 innings in taking the loss. Ausfahl (4-3) surrendered four runs - three earned - on 12 hits, walked three and struck out one.

The Lady Owls host Stephens College in an AMC doubleheader at 2 p.m. today.
