Women's Basketball: Westminster 70, MacMurray 43

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Westminster Lady Blue Jays produced 27 points off 21 turnovers by the MacMurray Lady Highlanders in rolling to the decisive SLIAC triumph Wednesday night.

Westminster College (4-8, 3-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) was in charge from the outset, racing to a 19-9 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Blue Jays extended their advantage to 35-21 at the break and owned a 50-32 lead to start the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Andrea Zalis responded with a game-high 17 points to guide Westminster, which shot 45 percent (28-of-62) as a team. Sophomore forward Juli Hix - who was 4-of-4 from the field - came off the bench to add 10 points for the Lady Blue Jays, who outscored MacMurray College 46-22 in the paint.

Zalis also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to direct Westminster to a 43-36 edge on the boards.

Kayla Horlacher finished with a team-high 12 points for the Lady Highlanders (1-11, 0-5), who shot a woeful 30 percent (17-of-56) from the field. Destyne Powell was next with 11 points.

The Lady Blue Jays return home for a SLIAC matchup against Blackburn (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
