College Softball: William Woods sweeps Harris-Stowe

ST. LOUIS - The WWU Lady Owls moved their winning streak to five games by sweeping the Lady Hornets, 10-0 and 5-1, in Monday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader.

William Woods University (26-19, 12-10 AMC) ended the first game on the mercy rule after five innings. The Lady Owls put up a run in the top of the first inning, added two in the second, erupted for five in the third and tallied two in the fourth.

Senior center fielder Hannah Campbell finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs batted in and scored twice as William Woods totalled nine hits. Senior catcher Brailee Schulte was 2-for-3 with a solo, inside-the-park home run, a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman shortstop Regan Wilde went 2-for-2 with two RBI and senior first baseman Madison McCormick finished 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Freshman starter Madison Ausfahl (6-4) - a North Callaway graduate - threw a five-hit shutout and struck out five for the Lady Owls.

William Woods junior starter Bre Logan scattered three hits and struck out 10 to log the complete-game victory in the second game. Logan (7-1) allowed an earned run and walked two.

The Lady Owls scored two runs in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead, while Harris-Stowe State University (1-23, 0-18) came up with its lone run in the bottom of the second. William Woods tacked on its other two runs in the sixth.

Senior designated player Beth Begemann went 2-for-4 with a two-run, inside-the-park homer to help fuel the Lady Owls' 13-hit attack. Sophomore second baseman Emily Robinett was 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

William Woods ends the regular season with an AMC home doubleheader against Central Baptist (Arkansas) College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
