Men's Basketball: William Woods 78, Missouri Baptist 70

Senior forward Trey Mitchell tallied a game-high 25 points in the WWU Owls' American Midwest Conference victory over the Missouri Baptist Spartans on Thursday night at Anderson Arena.

Missouri Baptist University (4-3, 0-1 AMC) carried a 35-28 lead into halftime. After the Spartans went up 40-30 in the second half, William Woods University (6-3, 2-1) tied the game behind a 10-0 run that was punctuated by junior forward Brandon Vice with 16 minutes, 38 seconds left in the game.

The two teams exchanged the lead and the score was tied at 68-all with less than 2 minutes to go. Junior guard Darrien Dickey put the Owls ahead to stay at 70-68 when he scored in the lane with 1:47 to play.

The Owls made all eight of its free throws in the final :50 to clinch their second straight win.

Junior guard Jonny Woolf - who was 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range - produced 22 points as William Woods shot 49 percent (29-of-59) as a team. Vice added 10 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to give the the Owls a 45-36 advantage on the boards.

Jared White led the Spartans - who shot 32 percent (21-of-65) as a team - with 19 points. Chris Buzzell also provided 15 points, Luke Call finished with 14 and David Gabrovsek had 12.

William Woods hosts AMC foe Harris-Stowe State University at 3 p.m. Sunday.
