The Callaway County Chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association presented three alumni awards and five scholarships totaling $9,500 during its 22nd annual Anniversary Banquet at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club last week.

Tom Howard, CEO and general manager of Callaway Electric Cooperative since 1996, received the Outstanding Alumnus Award. Janet Trowbridge, a Fulton Public Schools teacher, received the Education Award and Travis Brinker of Brinker Farms received the Agriculture Award.

The chapter presented a $1,000 Capstone Scholarship, renewable for four years, to Fulton High School senior David R. Fague. Local alumni scholarships of $750 each were given to Calvary Lutheran High School senior Madeline G. Wilson, of Jefferson City, and Fulton High School senior Gabriel T. Luebbert.

Two other scholarships were announced, but the recipients were unable to attend. Carlie Cunningham is the recipient of the $2,000 Pinet Memorial Scholarship, and Michael Pezold is the recipient of the $2,000 Forward Callaway Scholarship.

Dr. Christopher Daubert, vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri, was the featured speaker at the banquet.

New chapter officers who take over July 1 were announced. They are Mike Boulware, president; Gary Cunningham, vice president; Ken Niemeyer, secretary; and Gina McLachlan, treasurer. New members of the board are Michelle Atkinson and David Backer.

Returning board members are Teri Arms, Mike Basnett, Mary Ann Beahon, Mike Conner, Tim Conner, Joe Holt, Marty Kehoe, Susan Krumm, Kelly Neudecker, Bob Pauley and Bruce Robertson.

The Callaway County Alumni Chapter is one of only a few chapters nationally to achieve Capstone status - the highest level of achievement in the Mizzou Alumni Association's Chapter Recognition Program - every year since the award was established. This distinction allows the chapter to earn scholarships for local students, as well as funds for chapter activities.
