The make up of Fulton's City Council will change as a result of local elections taking place April 3.

Two City Council members - Mike West and Beverly Gray - have announced they will not run again, and they didn't file for re-election. Filings were due at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Only one race is opposed, with candidates John Braun and Lindsey Pace-Snook each trying for a Ward 3 seat currently held by Gray.

Other candidates are running unopposed including Ballard Simmons vying for West's Ward 1 seat. Mary Rehklau, Ward 2, and Steve Moore, Ward 4, are running for re-election.

"There also will be a use tax on the ballot," City Clerk Courtney Crowson said.

This proposed ordinance could establish a local use tax that would collect municipal taxes on internet purchases. This tax would add a 2.5-percent tax to internet purchases for the city's General Revenue budget.

Elections for mayor of Holts Summit, as well as two City Council members, were open - and in all three cases, the incumbents are running unopposed, City Administrator Rick Hess said. Mayor Landon Oxley, Ward 1 council- member Sharon Schlueter and Ward 2 councilmember Thomas Durham all filed to run for new terms.

In New Bloomfield, incumbents filed and are running unopposed for open seats for mayor (Greg Rehagen) and Ward 1 and 2 (Gary Hoelscher and Rosemary Augustine).

School districts

With two seats available, South Callaway R-2 school board candidates include Micah Benningfield, who is completing his first three-year term and has filed for re-election. Brent Wood formerly served four consecutive three-year terms on the board and is running. Dawn Bailey, currently serving his first term, did not file for re-election.

"Since there are two seats open and only two candidates for those seats, there will be no election," said Mary Van Orden, director of curriculum and instruction, in a statement. "Mr. Benningfield and Mr. Wood are unopposed and will be installed at the April 11, 2018, board meeting."

North Callaway School District has six candidates running for two open positions, each with a three-year term. Candidates include: Amy Reinhard (incumbent), Greg Huddleston, Scott Starkey (incumbent), David Isaacks, Tim Conner and Gary Linnenbringer (a former board member).

Fulton Public Schools has two board seats available, currently held by Kristina "Kristi" Donohue and Dennis Depping (who is not running again). Donohue filed to run again, and other candidates include Jacqueline "Jackie" Pritchett and Leah Williamson Baker.

Two candidates filed for the New Bloomfield School District, which had two seats open. Russ Weyland holds one, but did not file for re-election. Current school board President Terri Sweeten did file to run again, and Amy Reeder-Pendleton also filed as a candidate.
