Two arrested following Morgan County chase

Two people were taken into custody following a drug and stolen vehicle investigation in Morgan County on Tuesday.

Deputies reported a stolen pickup on Route C near Route AA on Tuesday evening, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. The vehicle was parked along the road and listed for sale. A man contacted the vehicle owner and requested to test drive the vehicle. The man was allowed to drive the vehicle but never returned it to the owner.

It was later learned the man had driven to Morgan County in a vehicle that had been stolen from the Kansas City metro area.

Deputies saw the vehicle traveling south on Missouri 5 just north of U.S. 50 at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued.

The driver traveled onto U.S. 50, then onto Syracuse Road and several other gravel roads until he reached Route D where he went south. Deputies deployed stop sticks at the intersection of Route D and Route Z, but the driver was able to continue south on Route D before turning east onto Red Ribbon Road. There the driver entered a private driveway before crashing into a fence.

The driver then fled on foot, but he was eventually taken into custody. A female passenger remained in the vehicle and was also detained.

Deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Both subjects were taken to the Morgan County Jail. Names of the suspects were not released pending the filing of formal charges.
