William Woods claims 11th straight AMC women's golf championship

The sixth-ranked Lady Owls prevailed by a stunning 66 strokes to easily capture their 11th American Midwest Conference title in a row Tuesday.

William Woods University shot 610 (306-304) as a team to record its ninth victory of the season, distancing itself from second-place Columbia College's 676 total. Hannibal-LaGrange University came in third with a 683, Park University (704) was fourth and Freed-Hardemann (Tenn.) University (707) fifth.

With the win, the Lady Owls earn an automatic bid to the NAIA national championships May 20-23 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Lady Owls senior Jamie Palermo (73-77) and sophomore teammate Jodie Peacock (75-75) both logged a 6-over par 150 to finish in a first-place tie after 36 holes Tuesday. Palermo proceeded to defeat Peacock on the first playoff hole to secure her first win of the season and first-ever AMC championship.

Sophomore Myriam Hassan posted a 154 (80-74) to finish in third place, while sophomore Alejandra Ferrer took fifth with a 158 (78-80). Redshirt sophomore Joni Purvis placed sixth with a 160 (82-78) to round out William Woods' scoring.

Meanwhile, Hassan was named conference player of the year for a second straight time. She was joined on the all-AMC team by Palermo, Peacock, Ferrer, Purvis and junior Valerie Mielziner.
