A Holts Summit man has been identified as the person whose remains were found more than a month ago in Jefferson City.
According to a press release from the Jefferson City Police Department, the human remains found Jan. 21 in the 200 block of Schumate Chapel Road "most likely" belonged to John Nelson, 49, of Holts Summit. No foul play is suspected, the police department said. Nelson was apparently homeless at the time of his death.
It took until now to confirm Nelson's identity because detectives waited on confirmation via the use of dental records and due to the state of the body when it was found.
It is believed that Nelson was deceased six to 12 months prior to the call regarding his remains.
