The William Woods University Lady Owls shot a blistering 57 percent in the second half to key their 74-61 American Midwest Conference win over Missouri Baptist University on Saturday.
The game was a 27-all stalemate at halftime, but Missouri Baptist led by as many four points in the early minutes of the second half. Senior guard Andraquay Quinnine's layup with 14 minutes, 43 seconds left in the game put William Woods (17-8, 10-7 AMC) in front to stay at 43-41.
The Lady Spartans closed within 48-46 with 11:35 to go, but the Lady Owls answered with a 9-1 run over the next 4:09 to stretch their advantage out to 10 points. William Woods extended its lead to as many as 19 points on freshman forward Kennedy Volkart's jumper with 3:24 remaining as the Lady Owls made 17-of-30 shots in the second half and were a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line during that span.

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Senior starter Dane Smith tossed a one-hit shutout for the Owls in their triumph over the racers on Friday afternoon.
Smith struck out five and issued four walks in the complete-game win, while William Woods University (2-0) plated all of its runs in the final four innings to secure the win.
Senior left fielder Zach Nichols broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to drive in senior catcher Derek Fletcher. Nichols came home on a groundout to short by junior right fielder Nick Spagnola to put the Owls up 2-0.
Junior shortstop Javier Ledesna's steal of third base in the fifth turned into more when an error on the Northwestern Ohio catcher allowed Ledesna to score. William Woods made it 4-0 in the sixth when Spagnola reached on an error, allowing senior first baseman Stephen Kohler to score.
The Owls closed out their scoring in the seventh when Kohler singled in redshirt freshman second baseman Alex St. Pierre.

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Lady Owls pounded out 13 hits in dispatching the Lady Warriors in six innings Friday in the Oklahoma Baptist University Tournament.
William Woods University senior starter Becca Schemmer settled down after allowing two runs in the first inning, striking out six and giving up two runs on four hits for the complete-game victory.
The Lady Owls scored four runs in the top of the second, added two more in the third, one in the fith and three in the sixth to put Bacone away. Senior Lindsey LeCuru finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while sophomore Sydnae Hatton also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Three players reached double figures, but the Owls shot just 33 percent (17-of-51) as a team as they fell to the Scots in American Midwest Conference play Thursday night at Anderson Arena.
Senior guard Seth Thomas tallied 11 points to direct William Woods University (6-19, 4-11 AMC), which suffered its sixth loss in a row and tumbled to ninth place in the conference. Senior guards Blake Burgess and Dontre Jenkins supplied 10 points apiece.
Lyon (Ark.) College led from the start and coasted into halftime with a commanding 40-18 advantage.

William Woods posts two first-place
finishes at Hoosier Hill Relays
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Nick Zink had a hand in both of the Owls' victories at the Hoosier Hill Relays on Friday.
Zink topped the field in the 400 meters with a time of 49.24 seconds. He was also part of William Woods University's 1,600 relay - along with seniors Tanner Edwards and Terrell Shannon, and sophomore Rhett Cook - that came in first in a school-record 3:23.28.
Meanwhile, senior Anthony Stockton lost in the weight throw for the first time this season, taking second with a toss of 18.85 meters.
