A couple here lost their home, possessions and pets to a fire Monday morning.
North Callaway fire personnel arrived on scene after a fire call went out at around 6:45 a.m. to Victor and Chris Weiser's home off of Weiser Acres Drive to find the home fully involved.
North Callaway Fire Chief Lana Karhoff said that Central Callaway fire personnel also assisted in battling the blaze.
"The homeowner said the flames were coming up the vent just outside the door of his bedroom, and under the home they said they had heat tape on some water lines," Karhoff said. "He said that's the only thing under there, so we're assuming that's what it was."
Earlier that morning the Weiser's daughter, Dottie McDermit, had received a phone call from her father saying something was wrong.
"I got here about 6:30 and the whole side of the house looked like it was rolling with smoke," McDermit said, adding her parents had escaped to their car with only the clothes they had been wearing. "By the time I called 911 I heard glass breaking."
The building and everything in it are considered a total loss. McDermit said that her parents escaped unscathed but lost their pets, a chihuahua and a Maine Coon.
McDermit said her parents would likely stay either with her or with her sister, who also lives nearby.
