Auxvasse Board of Alderman candidates consider plans for future

AUXVASSE - Whether there is a race for the open North Ward seat on the Auxvasse Board of Alderman is still somewhat in question.

Aspiring North Ward candidate Jerry Wilkerson is hoping a last-minute petition to the courts Monday will restore his status as a certified write-in for incumbent opponent Stephanie Leverett's seat on the board. See the accompanying story for more details.

The Fulton Sun sent all three candidates a list of questions to help local voters make an informed decision when they head to the polls Tuesday. Here are their responses:

Why are you running for office?

There is always a need for people to be involved in our community. For me, this is one way I can give back to it as well as help move forward.

What do you want to accomplish? (Specific goals or plans)

The city is behind in a number of areas and our maintenance crew uses much of its time putting out fires. They don't have a lot of time to work on improvements because of time constraints. Some of this is being changed now and I would like to be a part of bringing us to a point that improvements can be the norm and not something we get to from time to time.

Why are you running for office?

Because I think there is too much spending in the wrong places.

What do you want to accomplish? (Specific goals or plans)

Cut down spending on things not needed like a spare water well.

Incumbent Stephanie Leverett did not respond to the questions by press time.
