Leaders of the Brick District Association are contemplating some infrastructure changes they hope will make the downtown shopping area more appealing to visitors. Bruce Hackmann with the Fulton Area Development Corporation presented a list of Brick District infrastructure ideas during the association's meeting Thursday morning.
Proposed target areas include the Second Street roundabout, Court Street and the Market Street, Nichols Street and Sky-Go parking lots. Hackmann said he considers the proposals for the roundabout - which include a fountain in the center surrounded by flowers and shrubbery, with a circular brick wall and signage - to be a priority.
"They city told us yesterday they would donate the roundabout to us so we can do what we want to enhance the entrance to downtown," he said. "I think we can make that a really eye-catching entrance to the district and to downtown as a whole."
Ideas for Court Street include brick history panels on the sidewalks, replacing dead trees and possibly adding grates around the trees, additional planters and hanging baskets. Suggestions for the Market Street lot were to put up an arched sign that Hackmann said would bring visitors into the district from Market Street as well as a raised brick sidewalk running north and south between parking spots.
