Westminster men end soccer run in Sweet 16

The Blue Jays' run through the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament came to an end by way of a 2-0 loss to the No. 6 Loras (Iowa) College Duhawks in the Sweet 16 on Saturday evening.

"I'm so proud of everything we did on the field, but it is always sad to lose," Westminster senior midfielder Michael McDonough said. "It was disappointing, but we all worked hard. We gave it our best shot."

Loras tallied the decisive goal in the 36th minute when Alex Bradley put a shot past Blue Jay freshman goalkeeper Raul Romero off an assist from Kevin Cavers. Westminster (13-9-1) went into halftime down 1-0 and had just one shot on goal in the second half. coming off the foot of McDonough.

Tom Fluegel added the final Duhawk tally in the 86th minute thanks to an assist from Johnny Rummelhart as Loras outshot Westminster 11-3 on the day.
