South Callaway High School's drama department opened the school year with its fall production of "The Butler Did It" on Friday and Saturday. First-time director and new teacher at SCHS, Heather Sheperd, selected the play for the students because of its combination of comedy and murder mystery.

The story takes place in 1930s Britain at the home of the Covingtons, a wealthy family. Colonel Nigel Covington, father and husband, promises his daughter, Kat Covington, will marry their neighbor, Trevor Barstow. But the marriage plans are cut short when Trevor is murdered. The Covington family - along with their butler, Jenkins, maid and famous crime author Edwina Corry - work together to solve the case.

When it is revealed that Jenkins hypothetically said he would kill Trevor if given the chance, he becomes the primary suspect. Jenkins, who knows he did not commit the murder, questions person by person to find out the truth as he's tied to a chair. Through his investigation, Jenkins discovers crime author Edwina Corry killed Trevor because he was going to reveal the lies behind her recent novels.
