A plan by Westminster College of Fulton to open a second campus in Mesa, Ariz., has received accreditation approval from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.

Westminster President George B. Forsythe said Monday the accreditation came at a Feb. 25 meeting of the Institutional Action Council of the commission.

The Mesa site where Westminster and other colleges will offer courses is known as the Mesa Center for Higher Education.

Forsythe said final accreditation approval means the Mesa campus can now move forward. "We can now start accepting student applications for this fall," Forsythe said.

Forsythe said the commission also will conduct a separate Mesa campus evaluation visit that is required within six months after instruction starts on Westminster's Arizona campus.

Classes at the new Westminster campus in Mesa, Forsythe said, will be at the Mesa Center for Higher Education. It is a 53,000-square-foot building occupied formerly by the Mesa City Court building.
